Stainless Steel 202 Rods are chromium and manganese stainless steel from austenitic family. However, it has a moderate amount of nitrogen, copper and nickel content. These rods are balanced with alloying elements. After annealing operation, it gets an austenitic structure. The composition of nitrogen content offer elevated strength and raise formability. These rods are ideal to use in structural applications. Due to the copper content its work hardening rates is less.
Stainless steel rods are fabricated from the mechanical extrusion process. These rods are mostly used in demanding applications. These are designed as per the end application requirements. The structure of alloy affects the manufacturing process.
When it is annealed rods structure turns to non-magnetic. When it is cold worked its structure turns to magnetic because of its martensite structures. SS 202 display outstanding mechanical properties that depend on the degree of cold working. Because of the formability feature work hardening rates is decreased to achieve desired cold working properties. The nitrogen content present on it increases pitting resistance and strength. It has elevated annealed strength and same corrosion resistance in dense environments.
Maximum weldability can be attained by all welding operations. This includes resistance welding and arc welding except gas welding. Both hot and cold working operations can be applied in this grade. To attain desired mechanical properties metal treatment process are performed. The cold working operation helps to attain properties and magnetic structure. Stainless Steel 202 Rods is well known for malleability, workability, conductivity, and other features.
