ASTM A182 is a low alloy steel containing nominally chromium content. It has a hardness level up to 22 HRC. F22 grade is often used as the base metal for clad components. This grade is available in tempered or normalized conditions. It has good proof of stress.
F22 is an austenitic nickel and chromium alloy. It has a moderate amount of molybdenum that adds excellent corrosion resistance, even to crevice and pitting corrosion in the chloride environments. This grade is annealed too.
ALLOY STEEL ASTM A182 GR F22 FLANGES can be easily forged at a temperature between 1000 deg C to 1200 deg C, however above exposure is not recommended. The low carbon composition ensures no heavy scaling has occurred, also excessive soak times still avoided to prevent grain size. Machining operations are performed in the annealed conditions.
Special consideration is required to prevent work hardening. It offers great service in corrosive environments. It is considered for use in marine applications, however, it is not resistive to warm sea water, because it can cause pitting and crevice corrosion.

These flanges also have the ability to oppose stress corrosion cracking above 60 deg C. moreover, these flanges are not hardenable by heat treatment operations and supplied in the annealed conditions. It is done in minimum 1040 deg C and followed by rapid cooling actions.
CONCLUSION
ASTM A182 flanges have good oxidation resistance in intermitting temperature up to 870 deg C and offer continuous service up to 925 deg C. However, continuous exposure is not recommended. The lower carbon version is recommended because of its resistance to carbide precipitation. it has high strength above 500 deg C. ALLOY STEEL ASTM A182 GR F22 FLANGES are generally recommended to be weldable with all standard welding operations including fusion or resistance welding, but special consideration is required to prevent hot cracking.
